A pit and fissure sealant is a pink or tooth coloured liquid similar in consistency to nail polish. When applied by one of the life dental team, it flows into the teeth to fill the grooves, setting hard after only a few minutes. This makes the tooth smooth and easier to clean, creating a protective barrier against plaque and bacteria build-up. The sealant also contains fluoride for added protection.
The application of a dental sealant is a completely pain free procedure taking approximately five minutes per tooth and may last for five or more years. The ideal time to have sealants applied is immediately following the emergence of the first permanent molars, around age six and then after the permanent adult premolars come through, between the ages of eleven and fourteen.
The life dental team will answer any questions you may have regarding cleaning or oral hygiene advice and childhood tooth loss. The entire office provides a relaxed, non- threatening environment so your child is completely at ease and continues with good dental health for life.
